M--MOTIVATE

"MOTIVATION IS THE KEY"

WHY? You can only remember what you want to.

HOW? 1. Tune in to station WII-FM. ("What's In It For Me")

        a. How will this help me? Why should I bother?

2. Set realistic GOALS for yourself.

        a. Goals that you are capable of achieving.

        b. STOP and ASK

                i. Short-Term Obtainable Plan

                ii. Acquire Specific Knowledge

3. Announce your goals on the P.A. ("Pay Attentiion")

        a. See "WHY" above.

4. Motivation will help give the new information "meaning".

O--OBTAIN

"OBTAIN THE WAY THAT'S RIGHT FOR ME"

WHY? Only you can choose how you organize new information.

HOW? 1. Take "charge" of your own learning by using ...

2. THE V.A.K. ATTACK!

3. Visual--Auditory--Kinesthetic

4. Use all your strengths (resources) to solve problems.

R--RELATE

"RELATE TO WHAT I'VE SAID OR DONE"

WHY? The brain remembers best when it can associate with the past.

HOW? 1. Use "Deja vu. I know you!" thinking.

2. Use what you know to help remember what you need to know.

3. Build the future on a solid foundation (past).

4. If MOTIVATION gives it "meaning", this will help to make "sense".

5. Meaning and sense are needed for information to be placed in

long-term memory. (learning).

E--EXPLAIN

"EXPLAIN THIS TO YOUR FAVORITE ONE."

WHY? Talking and recalling memories helps to reinforce remembering.

HOW? 1. You have to "talk the walk". Use all your resources (Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic).2. If you really want to learn something, teach it. Teach to Learn the THREE R’s.

        a. REHEARSE—review data through "rehearsal" (doing it over again).

        b. RECALL—by rehearsing you will bring data from long-term memory.

        c. REINFORCE—by recalling, you will strengthen the connection between data.

MOTIVATION IS THE KEY.

OBTAIN THE WAY THAT'S RIGHT

      FOR ME.

RELATE TO WHAT I'VE SAID OR DONE.

EXPLAIN THIS TO YOUR FAVORITE

       ONE.

We remember what we understand;

we understand only what we pay attention to;

we pay attention to what we want.
