TEXT HEALTH

OBJECTIVES 

To give the student the necessary information to make wise and responsible decisions which will enhance the quality of a healthful life style not only for himself but also his family, community and for the global world.
To encourage development of patterns of behavior and values which will help the student cope with the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual stresses associated with adolescence in a rapidly changing world.
To develop knowledge and attitudes that will help the student appreciate health and its far-reaching implications on a personal, community and global scale.
To be able to critically evaluate health information, materials, products, services and Common beliefs in order to establish a sound basis for personal, community and world wide action.
To cause students to be aware of the consequences of risk taking behavior in areas such as: tobacco use, substance abuse, improper sexual behavior and other life style behavior.
To serve as a guide and resource for students who feel they have vocation in a health related field.

GRADING Quarter grades are based on chapter tests and homework grades.

EXTRA CREDIT Offered twice a quarter to all students on a voluntary basis.

BONUS POINTS Given for class participation after the completion of a chapter.

TEACHING METHOD Lecture with class discussion, small group discussions, speakers, videos,
filmstrips and use of the computer.

TESTS Four to six each quarter. Make up tests are normally given before or after school. IT IS
THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR ALL MAKE UP TESTS.

QUIZZES Are announced and count as a homework grade.

CLASS NOTES All class notes, homework and test scores should be kept either in a notebook
or computer file. IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE ALL CLASS NOTES THAT ARE 
MISSED BECAUSE OF AN ABSENT

HOMEWORK  In the form of reading assignments, essay and short research papers, chapter
review questions. Homework is just that-work to be done outside the classroom. Therefore,
homework should be on the desk and ready at the start of the class. All homework must be turned in on time in order to receive any credit. All missing homework still must be turned in, however no credit will be given for the homework. Additional points will be deducted for each day the assignment is not turn in. Students who are absent on the day the assignment is due must turn the assignment in within two days of the absences. Exceptions can be granted in case of extended absences but, the student must see the teacher to make arrangements for the missed assignments. REMEMBER: MAKING UP THE WORK IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT.

CLASS CONDUCT The philosophy used in regards to student behavior is that no one has the right to interfere with the education process or the safety of another student. Students are expected to follow the school's handbook rules and that of the classroom teacher. Inappropriate behavior will be dealt with by the teacher and in necessary cases by the Dean of Students.

LAPTOP RULES -

Bring your laptop to class each day with batteries charged
Use of laptop in class can only be on health related activities
No laptops can be used before, during or after tests unless directed to by the teacher
Identify all websites used in during homework assignments
Students must follow the school's guidelines on computer use. This includes screensavers, games, software use and infrared sharing
Students may not cut and paste homework from other students or texts nor may they use improper images or go to improper sites
Students are encouraged to do homework using their computer, but are expected to turn in a paper copy of their work when it is due
