Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the
Spanish language for beginners.

Course Objectives :
Introduce students to the basic concepts of the Spanish
language.
Introduce students to the cultures of Spanish speaking
countries.
Introduce students to the basic skills of meaningful
communication.
Class Requirements:
1. Supplies: Students need to bring a pen, notebook,
textbooks, and laptop to class daily. Loose leaf paper
and markers are not permitted.
2. Homework: Will be related to the prior class and will represent up to 10 % of the quarter grade.
Homework will be reviewed daily. All assignments must be handwritten. Homework done in the classroom, homework that is late, or work that is incomplete will not be accepted and will result in a reduction of points. In the event of illness or absence, the student must contact his two homework partners or the teacher.
3. Class Participation: This also represents 10% of the quarter grade. The student must participate by answering questions related to the homework as well as the new grammar subjects seen in class. Distracted, disruptive, or inattentive behavior will result in lost points.
4. Quizzes: The quizzes will cover vocabulary, grammar or cultural issues. Most of the quizzes will be online using the laptop. Each quarter there will be 3 to 6 quizzes.
5. Exams: Exams will be at the end of each quarter and will include study material from the quarter, as well as material from previous quarters. The exams will be online exams.
Evaluation: The student’s quarterly grade will be calculated by total number of points. The sum of these points will represent 100% as indicated below:
Homework 10 %
Class Participation 10 %
Quizzes 40 %
Exams 40 %
Total 100 %
Homework and Class Participation each represent 10 % (10 points) of the quarter grade. Homework and class participation grades will be reported at the end of the quarter.
Quizzes: All of the quizzes (3-6) taken per quarter will be added together and multiplied by .40
Exams: Like quizzes, the grade for the online or oral exam will be multiplied by .40
