Spanish Class
2006-2007
Dear Parents,
As we start a new school year here at Moeller High School, I would like to share with you some keys to learning a foreign language. First, the student will be learning to read, write, listen and speak in Spanish. To develop these skills, the student need to have good study habits. I have found that the following two are essential when learning a foreign language: preparation and attentiveness.
By preparation I mean that the student needs to spend time at home reviewing the topics seen in class and doing his homework. This is extremely important and I would like to request your help in ensuring that your son understands that daily review is critical.
The other issue is attentiveness in the classroom. Your son must listen carefully to the sound of the new vocabulary, as well as understand new grammar and cultural issues.
Developing these skills and study habits will result in a comfortable and motivated atmosphere for your son, which are one of the main goals in this class. I understand that each student has his own learning style and each one has different abilities, but experience has shown that successful students are both prepared and attentive. Finally, if your son has had problems with completing homework or paying attention in class, please let me know as soon as you can so that we can address the issue.
I wish you and your family a successful school year. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Professor Alberto Delgado
About the teacher
I am originally from Mexico City, Mexico. My career as a teacher started in 1984 when I started teaching sciences at the university in a beautiful city called Puebla, 100 miles from Mexico City.
In the United States I have been teaching Spanish Language courses at the college as well as university level. I thought freshman at the University of Cincinnati while I was studying for my masters degree in Hispanic Literature.
Besides teaching I am involved in many cultural events and organizations, mainly due to my collection of Latin American folk art.
This is my fifth year at Moeller. I am glad to be part of the Moeller family and to contribute to the intellectual formation of these young men.
