Mathematics Instructional/Intervention Specialist
James H. Jewell, M.Div.
As the Math Specialist, I provide mathematics instructional assistance, teach strategies, and develop interventions for students at Moeller High School who are not working up to the academic expectations of the math curriculum. Typically, I work with a small group of two to six students. However, I also work one-on-one helping an individual student design an intervention for a specific section of a given math course in which he is having difficulty. Because students work in a small group setting or one-on-one with my tutorial support, I am able to identify areas of difficulty and suggest appropriate strategies and interventions for learning. This small group setting also allows for greater participation by individual students so that each can seek answers to his specific questions as well as enhancing his understanding and knowledge of the math content. Individualized instruction can be a great help for the participants who attend on an as-needed basis. Students may be enrolled at any point in their high school career following a referral by a teacher, counselor, parent or through self referral.
