I. Course Description: These courses are designed to help students read and understand simple (Latin I) and complex (Latin II) sentences with proficiency. At both levels, students will study grammar, usage, Roman culture, history, and mythology.
II. Course Goals: see Standards for Classical Language Learning page.
III. Texts: Longman’s "Ecce Romani", Books 1-2.
N. B. There will also be many supplementary handouts. STUDENTS ARE TO KEEP ALL HANDOUTS AND RETURNED TESTS IN A FOLDER OR BINDER.
IV. Course Expectations and Grading: There will be a myriad of individual, large group and small group learning activities: written exercises, vocabulary bees, story translations, etc. Since language learning is sequential, it is vital that the student keep up on a daily basis. COMPLETING HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS IS CRUCIAL AND WILL CONSTITUTE 20-30% OF THE QUARTER GRADE. Homeworks are posted on netmoeller.
If you have an individual concern, please call my voice mail at 79l-1680, Ext. 1996 or e-mail me at kstoll@moeller.org
Tests and quizzes will constitute the rest of the quarter grade. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF TESTS AND QUIZZES MAY OFTEN DEPEND ON MEMORIZATION OF GRAMMATICAL ENDINGS.
