TRINITY HOUSE
Welcome!
You have probably heard quite a bit about the House System begun during the 2005-2006 school year, whose purpose is to further the mission of Moeller by emphasizing integral formation of the whole person. The House System focuses on Pastoral Care which will be provided for all students and at all times. Your son is in TRINITY House, whose Dean is Mr. Jim Champlin. Your son’s Dean is charged with the job of leading the effective development of the House, and to oversee the administration of the House.
My name is Mrs. Bridget Gallagher, and I am your son’s Mentor Teacher. My role in the House System is integral to the success of the system as a whole, as I will be meeting with your son every day. The Mentor Teacher is an adult who has ultimate responsibility for a Mentor Group and oversees the seniors and activities of the group. The Mentor is NOT a guidance counselor, but an adult who will see your son every day until he graduates.
The Mentor role is to develop a positive relationship with each student in the mentor group, recognize each student and celebrate individual successes. The mentor is also a person who knows your son and, when a need arises, can direct him to the appropriate person for assistance.
Some of the activities completed during the 2005-2006 school year include informal chats led by myself or the Seniors, pre-Mass and assembly discussions, and discussion of more personal issues such as Katrina and Labor Day activities. We played X-box and hacky sack, watched movies, laughed and supported each other on many levels. We have stepped up for numerous leadership roles from coordinating the blood drive, Freshman dance, reading announcements and much, much more. All levels have been called out to special class meetings, and there was, of course, some time for homework.
After teaching groups of German students for four years in a row, and after a very successful Mentor group in 2005-2006, I know first-hand the positive effects such long term student-teacher contact can bring. I look forward to working with your sons this year!
