Since Septemeber,1981 when I first entered the halls of Moeller High School, I knew that I had found my home away from home. Being one of the few females present in an environment dominated with males, I knew that I had my work cut-out for me. Well twenty-five years later (minus a hiatus to raise our son, to establish a private practice, and then to work in a public school setting) I am happy to report that I have survived and have learned much from my male counterparts and received continued support from the Women of Moeller. My return to Moeller six years ago as Case Manager for Students with Moeller Assistance Plans (MAP) and as a speech-language-learning specialist have continued to challenge me to develop and to support integrated intervention programs to meet the learning needs of all students. Currently, I am part of the Student Support Services Special Education Division at Moeller. I serve students with language-based learning disabilities and communication disorders through the Study Skills classes or through direct or consultive intervention in the resource room or within the regular classroom. Moeller contracts for my services through the Hamilton County Educational Service Center. I am a full-time faculty member.
Outside the classroom I work with the Drama Department. After working on twenty plus musical or drama productions in a variety of positions (Costume/Make-up Director, Vocal Coach, Casting, and Production Advisor) with Mr. Hotze, Director, over the last twenty-five years I have come to realize the many talents of our students, staff and faculty.
I am also the faculty mentor for the Parent Support Group which meets every other month to provide a forum for Moeller parents of students with language-learning disabilities, ADHD or other learning needs. Look in NewsNotes for upcoming meetings and the agenda. Linda Lovett serves as the parent coordinator for the group.
I also serve as a committee member for the Freshman Leadership Program which is based on the book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The design of the program is to develop personal leadership skills for our incoming freshman.
Interests/Activities:
Family: My husband, Jim, is a Special Litigation Assistant to the Chief Counsel of the IRS (I believe that's a special way to say attorney). We have been married for 32 years. Prior to law school, Jim taught math and science at Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Ohio. He coached football and baseball. Our son, Spence, is off to Rochester Institute of Technology this fall majoring in New Media Design and Imaging. While I will miss him I do look forward to having my 24/7 days with adolescent boys come to an end.
Just for fun: I love to read! I've been a member of a book club with the same group of women for more than 16 years. Anytime that I can decorate a room or someone else's I am in my element. Gardening and floral designing are passions as well. Weight-training and workouts are high priorities, since it's a great way to de-stress and to reduce the signs of aging...or so I've been told. Traveling and spending time with close friends and family are pastimes that I seek whenever time permits.
We are members of St. Gertrude parish in Maderia where Jim and I serve as Eucharistic Ministers.
