The Study Skills course is designed to provide special education support services within a resource room environment for students with documented disabilities and to further help students develop the skills necessary for academic success. Individual education or service plan goals as well as emphasis on goal setting, organization, time managememt, application of learning strategies and test preparation skills will be addressed. Grade level Study Skills classes will address specific strategies necessary for passing the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) and for preparing for college admission testing (SAT or ACT).
Credit: Students will receive one credit for this CP2 level course.
Prerequisite: Documented disability with an Individual Educational Program (IEP) or Services Plan (ISP) stating the need for special education services and accommodations.
Student Expectations
Be on time.
Use a planbook and record assignments daily.
Check and delete unnecessary email daily.
Check NetMoeller daily for course assignemnts and grades.
Schedule sessions with math intervention specialist as needed.
Schedule tests to be taken in the resource room on the test calandar or through email at least two days in advance.
Request scanning of text for Kurzweil at least one day in advance.
Maintain a personal folder containing a record of work completed during Study Skills, writing samples, strategy handouts and individual progress towards goals.

Materials (planner, required academic notebooks and personal folder) 20%
Classroom Preparation (assignment completion, application of strategies, productivity inside and outside of class and progress towards individual goals) 40%
Test Preparation (completion of study guides, vocabulary review, assigned readings and organized class notes and handouts) 40%
