The GCL South Cross Country Championships (combined with the GGCL and CHL in the afternoon) were held Saturday, October 17th, 2020 at the Christ’s Church Mason in Mason, Ohio...home to Moeller’s “Primetime” Invitational Meet as well. On behalf of everyone associated with Moeller Cross Country and the GCL/GGCL and CHL, we want to thank Christ’s Church Mason for once again allowing us to use their grounds for our league meets. It’s a great venue, and we greatly appreciate their hospitality. Thank you again!!
In GCL Varsity action, #1 State ranked St. Xavier won their 10th consecutive title with a score of 15. Elder finished second with 58. Moeller third with 72, and LaSalle fourth with 106.
For Moeller, the top individual finisher this year was Junior Jameson Maynes, who finished 7th in a time of 16:55. Also scoring were Senior Cannon Spelman (9th – 17:07), Senior Will Mendel (17th – 17:55), Junior Luke DiCristoforo (18th – 18:07), and Sophomore Sebastian Rahe (21st – 18:21). Also running Varsity were Junior Grant Prather and Senior Alex Rieth.
First Team All-Star Jameson Maynes and Second Team All-Star Cannon Spelman
In the Junior Varsity race, Moeller’s squad finished 3rd with 82 points. Junior Eli Smiddy was Moeller’s top finisher in that race in 13th place with a time of 18:41. Also scoring were Junior Logan Mitchell, Junior Zach Colbert, Junior Alex Longwell, and Junior Sam Cline.
In the freshmen race, that squad finished 2nd with 58 points. Freshmen James Flege was the top finisher in that race in 8th place with time of 11:38 over the two-mile course. Also scoring were Colin Swallender, Jake Karulf, Max Maney, and Kyle Hughes.
Finally, for the Open race, Moeller’s highest finisher was Senior Dominic Pappalardo in 38th place in a time of 19:02.
The postseason continues for the Varsity squad on Saturday, October 24th, 2020 with the OHSAA Division One Southwest Ohio District Race “A” at Voice of America Park in Westchester, Ohio, starting at 3:00pm. Moeller will face off with the likes of St. Xavier, Loveland, Lakota East, Elder, Sycamore, Fairfield, Anderson, West Clermont, Ross, Colerain, Western Brown, Goshen, and Hamilton, with the top four teams and sixteen individuals of that race advancing to the Regionals in Troy following weekend. While the team would love your support, unfortunately this year due to COVID restrictions, only parents will be permitted to attend.
