BUILDING THE CONFIDENCE TO SUCCEED
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT
At Moeller, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our academic support programs—including scheduled time for freshmen and sophomores to meet with teachers and peer tutoring—foster a collaborative learning environment where students grow in confidence and ability.
For young men with learning differences, we are committed to providing a college preparatory education in the Marianist tradition. Through Student Support Services, students with documented disabilities receive individualized support, accommodations, and strategies tailored to their strengths. Our goal is to empower students to understand their learning styles, develop self-advocacy skills, and build the confidence to succeed—at Moeller and beyond.
Speech and Language Services |
|---|
| For those students who struggle with verbal and nonverbal communication, a part-time speech and language pathologist works with students in group or individual settings. Students work on developing their pragmatic, receptive, and expressive language skills as specified in their IEP or service plan. |
Moeller Accommodation Plans (MAPs) |
|---|
| For those students who require instructional and assessment accommodations (e.g., extended time for assessments, frequent breaks) based upon their 504 or IEP, Moeller intervention specialists design a MAP that is communicated to all classroom teachers. Specific accommodations will be determined by intervention specialists based upon students’ specific needs. Please note that Moeller does not modify our rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum. |
Marianist Community Development (MCD) |
|---|
|
The purpose of the MCD program is to measurably increase the diversity of the student body here at Moeller. This program will accomplish this goal through a three-pronged strategy: actively working to recruit and admit a wider range of students, creating a proactive retention program assisting current non-traditional students who may be having difficulties adapting to the environment, and creating robust legacies that will diversify our alumni to be an engine for recruitment of diverse students. Students enrolled in the MCD program receive extensive, weekly support from a faculty mentor during their freshman and sophomore years to ensure a successful academic and student life transition into Moeller. |
M-Block |
|---|
| Freshman and sophomore students participate in this dedicated study hall monitored by their mentor teacher within the House System. During this 80-minute block of time, students can meet individually with faculty members for review and remediation, to meet with their house counselor, to meet with the math instructional support specialist, peer tutor or writing center, and to complete assignments and assessments. |
Math Instructional Support Specialist |
|---|
| Moeller employs a full-time math instructional support specialist to provide individualized support to students to encourage growth in mathematical thinking. Math support services include concept reinforcement, homework support, test review preparation, and lesson overview for students who have been absent. The math instructional support specialist is available to any student enrolled at Moeller. |
National Honor Society—Peer Tutors |
|---|
| Students struggling in any content area may be assigned to a peer tutor in the National Honor Society who has already completed advanced study in the content area. The peer tutoring relationship supports students with content mastery, study strategies, and skill development. |
Writing Center |
|---|
| The Moeller Writing Center relies on a college style model of peer tutoring - provided by senior AP English students—to grow students’ composition skills through Socratic questioning. Students bring texts to the Writing Center at any stage of the writing process to improve their communication of ideas, organization, punctuation, citation, or any other aspect of composition. |
