PILLAR
OUR LADY OF THE PILLAR: A VISION THAT INSPIRED A MISSION

During his exile in Saragossa, Spain, Blessed Chaminade spent countless hours in prayer before the statue of Our Lady of the Pillar. It is believed that in one of these moments of deep reflection, he received the divine inspiration to found the Society of Mary.
The origins of this sacred shrine trace back to St. James the Apostle, who traveled to Spain to spread the Gospel but struggled to convert followers. Discouraged, he gathered with his few converts in prayer, only to be awakened by the sound of angels singing. In awe, he witnessed Mary, the mother of Jesus, descending from the clouds, seated on a marble pillar and surrounded by angels. She assured James that a church would be built on that very site, promising that true Christians would always remain there.
Honoring this miraculous event, the Church of Our Lady of the Pillar has stood the test of time, surviving wars, persecutions, and invasions. It became a place of deep spiritual significance, drawing pilgrims from around the world—including Blessed Chaminade, who found strength and inspiration there during his exile.
THE HOUSE SYSTEM
Moeller’s nationally recognized House System transforms student governance into a vibrant, tight-knit community. Since 2005, students from all four grades have been united into Houses, each with mentor groups led by dedicated teachers and student captains.
Each student is guided by at least three significant adults—a house dean, mentor teacher, and counselor—who monitor and support his academic, social, and spiritual growth. The system strengthens relationships between students and faculty, fosters a strong sense of community, and provides leadership opportunities for all students.
