BROTHER MIGUEL QUIROGA: A MODERN-DAY HERO

Brother Miguel Angel Quiroga, S.M. (1972-1998), lost his life on September 18, 1998, while serving the poor in Colombia. As he traveled by river to a remote parish, an armed paramilitary group stormed the boat. When Brother Miguel stood up to defend his fellow travelers, he was shot and died in the arms of a fellow Marianist. Targeted for his unwavering commitment to the poor, he was martyred on the feast of the Marianist Martyrs of Spain.
At Moeller, we honor Brother Miguel’s courage and selflessness as an inspiration for our House System. Just as he embraced and served those in need, the House System fosters a spirit of diversity, leadership, and brotherhood, encouraging every student to share their unique gifts. In a world searching for true heroes, Brother Miguel stands as a shining example of faith, sacrifice, and service—ideals that define a Man of Moeller.
THE HOUSE SYSTEM
Moeller’s nationally recognized House System transforms student governance into a vibrant, tight-knit community. Since 2005, students from all four grades have been united into Houses, each with mentor groups led by dedicated teachers and student captains.
Each student is guided by at least three significant adults—a house dean, mentor teacher, and counselor—who monitor and support his academic, social, and spiritual growth. The system strengthens relationships between students and faculty, fosters a strong sense of community, and provides leadership opportunities for all students.
